We believe in keeping things simple, honest, and close to home

There’s no middleman in our process. Every blueberry you enjoy is grown, harvested, and handled entirely by us. From caring for our fields to picking fruit at peak ripeness, we take pride in every step. What reaches you comes straight from our farm, ensuring maximum freshness, quality, and flavor. When you buy from our family, you’re getting fruit directly from the hands that grew it.

Our story is rooted in generations of hard work, family values, and a deep love for the land. As a fourth-generation blueberry farm in West Michigan, we take pride in continuing a tradition that has been carefully cultivated and passed down over decades. What began as a small family endeavor has grown into over 80 acres of thriving blueberry fields, each season reflecting the dedication and care of those who came before us.

Located in West Olive, Michigan, our farm is home to a diverse range of blueberry varieties. This allows us to offer fresh, high-quality berries throughout the season, with early varieties ripening in July and later harvests extending through August. Each variety is chosen and nurtured to ensure the best flavor, quality, and experience for our customers.

We believe strongly in supporting local agriculture and the importance of sustaining family farms across the United States. By choosing locally grown produce, you’re not only enjoying fresher, better-tasting fruit—you’re also helping preserve a way of life that values community, stewardship, and connection to the land.

For us, farming isn’t just a business—it’s a legacy. We’re proud to share that legacy with you, one blueberry at a time.

  • We like to keep our customers informed on what it takes to grow safe and high-quality fruit. Here is our general overview from Tim Zelenka (our farmer) on nutrients, sprays, and fertilizers.

We are not certified organic. We use a lot of nutritional products which include micronutrient minerals, we use urea as a source of nitrogen. Molasses is also used a lot as a source of carbon and sugars to aid in microbial activity in the soil. We use herbicides to control weeds but we do not use round-up (glyphosate). We use fungicides to prevent Anthracnose and Alternaria which are fruit rot diseases. We also use insecticide to control spotted wing drosophila which is a fruit fly that lays eggs inside of soft fruits like berries. Certified organic farms still use sprays and we use sprays like all other farms because if we didn't, there would be bugs in the fruit.

I understand your concern and we wish we didn't have to use any chemicals, but it isn't as simple as just letting a field go wild. We deal with food safety daily and abide by all regulations. We go through a very strict primus audit of our records and our general farm practices every year and pride ourselves on scoring 98 percent or higher every year.

In regard to natural fertilizers, other than we use of wood chips to add organic matter to the soil, natural fertilizers such as manure are not allowed because of the food safety hazard. Even certified organic farms are spraying insecticides and fungicides they just spray more often with certified organic labeled chemicals.

As you can see there is no easy answer. We work very hard to minimize chemical use and grow a quality berry.

I hope this answers any questions!

    Thanks,

Tim Zelenka (Berry UP Blueberries Farmer)
